Post by GlennP » Sun Oct 24, 2010 9:02 pm

What is a reasonable time estimate to replace a steering clutch on a 350B? One side only. Thanks!

Around five cases of beer would be a reasonable time frame. It all depends on what you find when gettin into it and if you have all the tools or have to waite on parts .I have had them come apart nice and others would be considered a nightmare.Digitup2.

digitup hit in on the head 6-60 hours depending on ease of disassembly and how much beer is consumed in process. If you've got a reasonably well equipped shop, a manual and all the parts (provided nothing has self destructed on the inside) you should be able to do it on a good Saturday.

Thanks guys. I have a heavy equipment shop lined up to do the work and we are trying to determine what is a reasonable time estimate. The shop is willing to charge based on actual time estimates experienced by others working on the 350. It sounds like we are talking a full day of shop time. They have no experience working on this particular unit. Appreciate your help on this! Cheers!

Just getting the assembly out takes a lot of time. Need to remove the seat, entire fuel tank/hydraulic reservoir assembly (meaning you need to disconnect all fuel and hydraulic lines), etc. If all that is done in the shop and you simply drive it in, that would be great. I used a backhoe to remove that stuff, after breaking the tracks on the side that has to be removed. Then took the unit in to Pape Machinery and they did the rebuild for about $450 US including parts. Did not replace throwout bearing, just the clutch pack and pressure plate.
