350 Sprocket

Post by bonker81 » Fri Dec 31, 2010 7:56 pm

The right track on my 350 is "popping" every 10-15 seconds while traveling. Gramps say I need a new sprocket on that side. I intend to re-adjust the clutches, track tension and try to check alignment tomorrow. Does this sound like a sprocket issue? If I do one do I have to do both?

My crawer track was doing the same thing . I inspected the track an found the master link was working it's self out. I got it back in welded it up it stoped poping. I think about haveing to grind it out to replace steering clutches.

Hi,

Sometimes you can have a pad with slightly loose bolts and it will 'clack' every time it comes up top off the sprocket and re-meshes with the other pads.

later!

I re-adjusted the clutches (because they needed it anyway after having both been replaced this summer) and adjusted the tension on the tracks. Both tracks were much looser than the manual recommends so I tensioned them to 7/8" slack between the sprocket and top roller like it says and I did not notice the noise after that. Hopefully it was just because the track was too loose. When I checked it was closer to 1 3/4" of sag. I would have had more time to test it out had the cooler line for the reverser not let go in the middle of the front yard. oh well. you weren't lying stan, there is no such thing as a cheap crawler.

Hi,

Nope! You can either pay the cost of a new (that's a relative term around here!) machine, or pay the cost of fixing up a not-so-new one! :P

Later!

Stan

BTW, I sort-of stole that line. There's a scientific acronym (term), TANSTAFFL meaning There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch. This is my application of the concept for crawlers! :P

Stan are you saying pay the price of new or pay the price of repairs .I have been wareing the scars of both lately I got two older 550Js repaired and bought two new 550Js.Now I am trying to figure out what hurt more I think it was new though.somthing has got to go now there were 6 of them J seriesdozers in the shop for a while .It was kind of nice that our dollars are on par lately .Cat was talking par so Deere had to do the same .The 09s were 135 plus and the 11s are 119 and small change so par dollar is a wee bit easyer to take but I bet you guys would prefer having a bit more bang for the buck .Alot of our manufacturing bussness are feeling the pinch they would rather you guys had a rosier dollar at this time hopefully tthings will turn around by next year .Digitup.

Well I thought I was in the clear with the track noise. This past Wednesday we had 24+" of snow which I pushed all over the place for 6 hours with no noise at all. Now today I put the 93A back on and the noise is back. I think the weight of the attachment combined with some age on the sprockets is causing the problem.

Is there a small backhoe attachment that I could put on or do I just have to limit the amount of "cruising" I do with the hoe on?

A hoe hanging on the back of a crawler is darn'd hard on it .the weight will damage the back rollers sprocket and track chains put an other operator on the tractor and watch the sprockets make shure they are all alined as well when the rollers start departing they will tilt off to one side and start occasionaly sounding weard as well the sprocket will do a lot of complaning about a misalined roller so do some walking beside the tractor and watch the chain contact.Digitup.
