Hi I have a JD 450c (1965) There seems to be something wrong with the steering clutch... it will not turn to the left, only in circles to the right. I cannot fond why it is not engaging. I have taken it apart twice, and I cannot find the issue.
Does anyone have any ideas?
I also have had no luck finding a Diagram of the steering clutch ot an owners manual so I can be sure I did, in fact, put it back together right, or where I went wrong. I've been working on machinery for 50 years. This one stumps me!

450c will only drive in circles!
disappointed
OK, SO I am disappointed that there were 81 views and not a single reply. I was told this was THE palce to get answers. I won't be reccommending it. The other JD site gave me 15 replies and 2 diagrams. Just wanted to share.
Before not recommending any one hold up !I am trying to figure out what you have for a 450 as the C series weren't out yet heck the 450s didn't come out till late in that year .If you have a straight 450 follow your linkage and make one side's linkage work like the other watch for broken linkage rods and seized components .Get a TM for the old Deere there is more info in them than you may ever need .But figure out what you got for a Deere then get the right TM for the series .Don't take the first letter after the 450 on the serial number plate take the second letter for your series the first one is a build code remember .Digitup.
Re: disappointed
No offense, but I think you haven't given the site a fair shake. There are numerous archives on here about steering clutches, including photos of disassembly and reassembly. Did you search them first?amy wrote:OK, SO I am disappointed that there were 81 views and not a single reply. I was told this was THE palce to get answers. I won't be reccommending it. Also, many on here are learning just as you so there will be a lot of views without replies. As Digitup said, you had incorrect year/model information which complicates the issue. I have grown to respect the participants here over the years because they all have good informaiton to share if you give it a chance.

I would like to state that of the sites that I have viewed over the past 10+years, this is the best by far.
I do not intend for this comment to be short, but it is not like folks are just sitting on here waiting on someone to ask a question. It depends on many factors such as when you post, which section you post to, who may be on vacation, pushing snow, how accurate your info is, etc.
You may have to wait or search but this site has the best information that you will find.
If I knew anything about that model, I would be happy to help.
Good luck and wlecome to the best message board for JD crawlers.
