350 crawer spring lenght

I mesured the spring lenght it's 15 inchs in side the retainers, The manual calls 17 5/8 . Doubled nuted and rusted solid. That needs to be adjusted relieved for seversl reasons . How serious or critical haveing the spring to tight?

It will increase the tension on the spring, making it stronger spring in tems how much pressure it takes to compress it.

To much pressure will stress the track adjuster an evey thing that moves on the track frame. The cross bar would take the brunt of the force. Lavoy I read the setting wroung . It should be 14 7/8, mine are good thank you gerald.
