350 dozer reverser leak

Post by ssdgarrett » Sun Mar 13, 2011 9:49 pm

I am hoping that someone with some experiecnce with 350 dozers can shine a light on a question that I have. I just purchaced a 1969-70 model 350 dozer from a neighbor that had her husband pass away. It had a problem that developed when he was out piling brush with the dozer. It developed a severe leak on the left side front corner of the belly pan area. It looks like it may be coming from the reverser area. I understand that the reverser has a couple of hoses and I am suspecting that one of those hoses had a stick run through it. How hard are the hoses to change and does anyone have any tips on how to make the job easier? I am assuming that once I get the belly pan off and get under the dozer it will be apparant where the leak is coming from. Does this sound logical or am I all wet on this problem?

I can't remember any hoses under my 1970 350 crawer. Drop the pan an look on the right side in the middle there is a plate on the side with 3 7 1/6 bolts that would be the reverser reservoir an filter. With luck it may be something easy.

Could be reverser cooler hoses are leaking. Get all of the mud and crud cleaned out that you can after you remove the pan.

I completely rebuilt an early 350 once and I remember that the oil cooler lines were in two sections with a hose and clamps between the two lines. The newer models eliminated the hoses and use metal to metal connectors and a longer front line.

That is indeed the most likely source of a leak and just replace it with some good hydraulic hose.

To get the pan off, I just used a block of wook and a floor jack. I think the hoses go down the left side in the area of the side frame.

I just read your post again and the leak in the fwd left corner. There are also hoses on each line there. You may not need to drop the belly pan. I don't remember exactly but you may be able to enter by removing the grille. Worse case, you pull the front shroud.
