On man's 50% is the next mans 0%

Post by digitup2 » Thu Mar 31, 2011 6:13 am

Last week I got an auction flyer in the mail with a 550J LT for sale in it tracks were 50%. I drove to the auction and looked at the tracks the boss's were being beaten so bad by the rollers that the bottom rollers were all chipping .I stopped the auctioneer mid sale and said are you sure that the tracks are 50%.He quickly produced a track inspection report from our local Deere dealer showing rail height 50% -roller diameter 50%. Sure enough there was the report in black and white proper s/n and date .Auctioneer was a bit peeved I had stopped him mid spiel he got real smart ass about it and said what is the problem . I pointed out the rollers hitting the bosses and said these tracks are at 0% life not 50%.That dozer never sold even though I could have had it cheep.I have photos and gonna send them later .Just because the inspection report says 50% I guess it doesn't mean half the life is left in those tracks and rollers look things over your self real close .Track reports aren't worth the paper they print it on some times .Digitup.

you know exactly what your looking at....the average person at an auction has no idea what to look for.
I have heard horror stories of people buying crawlers to use and finding out the machine is worth nothing but its' weight in scrap.

My local sales man was in I guess the auctioneer went ballistic on Nortrax and the pissin match begins .Auctioneer called back and I offered 18G for it just because I was interested in it to begin with .He is gettin back on Monday.Salesman wants to sell a new unit for 180G I had to explain to him he is $hi% out of luck ! I think I should have stayed at home .I have been trying to find a decent dozer with no cab cheep .Lots in the States to choose from very few in Canada.I am going to have to import .Any one on here from the Graham Washington area there is a decent one there I would like looked at with 4000 hours on it .Digitup.

Nortrax is 100% Deere owned [who in turn is mostly owned by the Swiss banking system] they are not a very productive bunch they sit back and try to sell on the good name well that is coming to a halt fast with parts men that can't look up part numbers or find parts in anything but a computer and even that has it's limits.I took a 550J dozer in for servicing a week a go and they have left a diagnosis tool hooked up and in under the cab I noticed this because the digital read out said {under diagnoses } on the dash of the 550J so he didn't check the system was working when he let the cab down either and the warning light was flashing all the way out the door when the operator drove it to the yard as well .I am just glad they fixed the problem that one is ready for spring .So the repair men are on top of things as well but when the newer dozers are off warranty we will probably find a diagnostic tool handy !!.Digitup.

Dumb question maybe, but when did Deere acquire Nortrax? A guy from my area used to own all the Nortrax stores, never heard that he sold them.

The listed owner of Nortrax was Deere 20 months ago ,They basically have all the franchise from Florida to the North pole on east side .Digitup.

We were told that Ontrac couldn't make a go and as the doors were closing a take over happened Notrax Moved in from the south and got every thing .They have to list American ownership and it comes up Deere and Company.I dealt with them several times before in the New England states before this Digitup.
