track master pin
track master pin
the manual shows the master pin is different from the others with a snap ring holding it , all the other pins are straight . i have look over and over and haven't found the master pin yet. with the crawlers age i figured the master pin was replaced ,all the pins on both sides look exactly the same no dimple , nothing to show its the master pin. can i just pick any pin and nock it out.

It is possible that the master pin was welded into place rather than retained with the clip as originally equipped. However as Lavoy said, look for the master pin because there should be some noticeable difference. Sometimes dirt obscurs it so washing off may be a good first start.

Once you find the master pin, you will likely need a sledgehammer and pin or other type of driver to knock it out. Depending on conditions, you may need to also try heat (rosebud), cold (dry ice), penetrants (kroil, etc), or vibration (air punch or chisel) to get it out. Cussing like a sailor also seems to help
Here are other options for getting them out:

splitting tracks
I have split several JD tracks.
I used a piece of 1" round stock about a foot long with about a 3 foot piece of rebar welded at 90 degrees near the end. One person hold the round stock on the master pin and the other stands on the track with a huge sledge hammer. Nothing short of that was successful. I don't think I would go to the trouble of making a jig for a hydraulic cylinder when it probably will not be successful.
Spray them well with penetrating oil.

Unless you are using a 4" or bigger cylinder, I doubt it will budge it.
The shaft and rebar idea is one way, I have also heard of doing the same thing except with a heavy pice of cable so the guy holding it does not get his has rung so much.
I also saw a commercial one that uses a piece of tube stock clamped to the track pad, then the shaft goes through that so no one has to hold it.
