4219 turbo built?

My 450c dozer has a 4219 turbo engine. Its weak.
I have found a 4219 non-turbo in a 1978 vintage compressor.
Can I install my turbo on a non-turbo engine during the swap? I've heard the term turbo built. What are difference?

Might be different rods, some used to spray oil on the pistons for additional cooling. Pump is likely set up different, mabye some other stuff. Talk to a Deere dealer, or compare part numbers in a parts book for either engine.

The non turbo uses different cylinder liners that are not as heavy. There may be other differences also. I would suggest checking the parts list for a 2440 ag tractor, those are non turbo, and compare them with your tractor.

I am not sure how long a non turbo engine will last under turbocharger pressure but I don't think long.
I know the liners are a lot more rugged,I think piston are beefed up with thicker ring lands as well.
is your engine just low on power...maybe new liners and pistons etc.
we just did a in frame overhaul on a case 580 and it came out real nice and she is making good power again.

The older 3 and 4 cylinder engines were all turbo added except for the 4276 motor it was turbo built from the start 4219 was not really ever turbo built it was dealer and factory turbo added.Turbo built was in the 4239 engine with several additional modifications including two more main bearings heavier crank seals ,selves ,connecting rods and different pistons as well as higher injector settings It was a total different motor To turbo a 4219 the big thing is a oil pressure line and an oil return line for the turbo it's self it should work fine I had a special edition 410 Gold digger series[Only in Canada they were made at the London Ontario dealer ]That backhoe that was turbo added among other things.Yes it was metal flake gold instead of yellow.I guess we also had a 450B with a dealer added turbo .Both were late seventy's machines and that was a heck of a long time ago but I know the pistons weren't changed in the back hoe It was a trick to tap into the oil journal and I am not sure if the early return line went to the block or to the pan It's been a long time !.Digitup.

Lot's of 4010, 4020's, 5010's, and 5020's in our area had turboes added with no internal modifications. Unless you were a retard on the smoke screw, they didn't have any trouble.

I'm thinking this 4219 driven non-turbo compressor might be worth chasing. Its very low hours. Also I have a 410 so it would never go to waste.
Worst case for the dozer swap would be to drill and tap the block for turbo oil lines and change over the manifolds I guess.

smoke screw? Is that a pump adjustment which adds or reduces fuel?
