Rear sprocket hitting lower roller

Post by lawsonj5 » Tue Apr 19, 2011 9:17 am

The rear sprocket on my 350 is hitting the lower roller causing the track to lock up. I checked the bearings in the final drive and they appear to be good. Has anyone ever experienced this or know what the problem might be?

Bottom roller is shot and/or the plate/grove that attaches the track frame to the round shaft on the crawler frame is worn allowing the rails to shift over and allow the bottom roller to contact the sprocket.

If the round shaft/groove is wore out, can I just build it back up by welding it or spinning the shaft around? Also, how to you check for a bad roller?

You lift/jack that trackframe off the ground, release tension on the track, and check the roller for worn or stuck bearings.

Yep, sometimes you can just turn that plate around, but on an old crawler that has probably been done already. so just weld it up and grind it smooth

Ok, I pulled the track and skid off tonight. Found out there is lots of slop in the final drive and one bad roller. I'm assuming the bearings are shot in both. Guess I'm going to have to pull the final drive and see what everything looks like inside and see if its rebuild able. Anything I should look out for?
