Question on out riggers leaking off

Post by gerald » Thu Apr 21, 2011 7:56 am

I rebuilt the hyd controls on my back hoe the outriggers where notmworking befor I rebuilt them still not working right. The valve has a spring in side to hold it center I think. both out riggers leak off fast an will not pressure down . I'm thinking both cyl could be by passing. It's way to much work for trial and ere. The hoe is being held up with come along. Thank you Gerald

Could it be a leaking cylinder?

If the valve is closed, that would be after the pressure relief I think, but not too sure on those valves.

Ya all older backhoes don't have PR valves in the stabilizer system Do not leave the older hoes on a slope or any other scenario where they may fall ,slide or move with stabilizers collapsed or retracted .I think 80 was the cut off for for no PR valve in the stabilizer pad hydraulic system .Digitup.

I am now breathing a sigh of relief !.Ken I read your posting again and noticed the bit about PR valves and thought dam .I am getin so old and feeble I didn't notice that Ken mentioned the PR valve in his post then I scrolled down and you had mentioned that you changed it after .Don't give Digitup too much credit his head will swell and his hard Hat won't fit !!I my self would be replacing the O rings first.Digitup.

Outriggers leaking down

Post by NWJD fan » Fri Apr 22, 2011 10:06 pm

The 9250 hoe on my JD350 had a cracked outrigger valve segment that would leak down internally at a fairly rapid rate. If cylinders are not leaking down and new o-rings in valve segment are ineffective this may be your culprit.

Thank you all. I went after the out rigger valves yesterday simple job. What I found was bad spools an seats after cleaning with fine sand papper and useing a touch of silcone on the 0 rings. Hopefully it's fixed. there is a small breather on each end cap there missing on those valves opened for dirt. What can I use other then silcone? Thank you Gerald

Gerald actually silicone or Vaseline are both good for the O rings .Digitup.

Sorry about the last post even I didn't under stand. 430 A M is a bit early for this . There is a smal breather vent on the bottom of evey valve on the cap some of the vents are knocked out, letting dirt into the lower part rusting the spring. I dont see why the cap needs to be vented . Finding a vent the size of pencel eraser might be impossible.

hi just finished fixing 555a with 9305 backhoe had weld & machine tops spool plunger. due to heavy rust . i had your same problem had to swap around plunger in different bores to get boom not to drop is a little sticky now but works ok . and yes o rings are cheap. but modern spool valves have there advantages. like preflow cuts in plunger. i am considering joy stick with new spool bank . and yes open center spool on mine as well . to check cylinder fully extend pull rod end off hose try to extend more with control lever no fluid should pass. hope this helps

That is true the oil should only flow when the lever is pulled on a open system .I ordered Hoses to extend the hoe for hook up ,it will help in doing checks on it alot easier. Thanks for the thought Gerald. There is a small vent on the bottom of evey valve cap where the spool is pulled from the bottom. I'm thinking of pluging the ones that are missing , It's a small brass vent .
