oil dipstick tube

Post by RMAC » Sat Apr 23, 2011 10:20 am

I'm looking for the tube that screws into the engine block, on my 66 450, the original broke off, I was able to ez out the broken portion, but I'm missing approx. 1/2". so I probably won't get an accurate read on the oil level, the original is about 4.5" long. Also I have some minor oil leakage coming fro the flywheel on the front of the engine, does anyone know if that has a gasket that can be replaced or is that more indicative of a bigger problem?
Thanks

You can order the dipstick tube right from Deere and the dipstick you have should work if the tube is properly installed dose it go in the block or the pan most go in the block. The leak at the crank end can be fixed with a gasket set but be prepared to pull the pan .Digitup .

I had to buy a new dipstick, along with tube, as the new tube won't accept the old dipstick, it seems as if the original one is no longer available. I bought a used tube from PB&H in Antrim NH (They're a great place for older deere parts) and a new dipstick at Nortrax. Know all I have to do is fix the leak in the crank.
