c pump electric shut off valve

My 1970 350 would not keep the battery charged . Some time back the wire burned out for the fuel shut off,fuel went evey where. I took the sender off an pluged it with teflon tape a dab of silcon. I have to pull the throttle back to shut the engine down. I think it's a perment fix.
