JD 550 update
Well back in the fall I traded my 430c for a 550 with a tranny problem. The tranny lines were vibrating and making lots of noise. Also the crawler would work for a little while and then stop. Book made it sound like the tranny pump was the problem so today I started prepping it to remove the pump. I found the problem when I pulled the suction screen out.
I dont think the screen had ever been cleaned. Took quite awhile to get it cleaned.
Worked the crawler for about 45min tonight and everything seems to be ok.

Hello, new to the board and thought I should throw in my 2 cents, since I am gonna be doing some brake work in the near future and will be asking a lot of info from you all!
Having the same problems as you, we had to cut the outer cover off the strainer to get ours completely clean, then re-weld it. I would recommend checking this screen as often as you can stand, as it seems to fill back up quickly when its clogged to this degree. We have done so over the last six months of intermittent farm use, and finally it remains clean.

If your screan is dirty seems to me it should be possible using a parts washer to backflow the screen thus removing the particulate?

Our screen was not able to be cleaned that way, but I do think there was an incorrect/incompatible additive or a stop-leak or seal conditioner present. The screen was clogged with the usual dirt and metal, but also with a teflon-like substance that was impossible to remove through the intake opening. If the screen is clogged with the usual dirt and metal, I would say you are correct.
