Clutch housing

Post by lp14255 » Sun May 15, 2011 1:23 pm

I'm in the process of fixing my transmission and replace the clutches , well I just found that the clutch housing and right side had some welding done to it before. The welds are cracking and it has a new crack , should I just get a new housing?

I would replace it now while you are at that point. The potential damage to be caused by catastrophic failure will make a good used housing very cheap by comparison.

Call Ed at 315-597-6899, I think he has one left, but I could be wrong.

Clutch housing damage

Post by vestor_guy » Mon May 16, 2011 8:48 am

Yes, definitely replace the housing.

Damage like this is most likely caused from abruptly tipping the crawler off of a trailer. The clutch housing mounts to the side frame. If it has this type of damage, also check the side frames for cracks.

Good, glad to hear it. You will be a lot better off in the long run with a good housing.

Im glad Ed has the parts , took the other side apart and found that clutch housing also cracked .I guess that this is going to cost a small fortune to get back. Together.

Reminds me of the old line "You can make a small fortune farming these days as long as you start out with a big fortune." I guess that applies to crawlers too.

If it means the threads are stripped or stripping, it probably does. See if you can use a slightly longer bolt. You may have to try it multiple times, shortening it each time until you know it is not bottoming in the hole.
