you have something causing a oil pressure drop or clutch problem in the reverse system of trans.
lots of times it is the piston and or piston seal leaking pressure and this causes the clutch to not be applyed with full force and you start slipping.
you don't want to slip that trans,it will just heat up the clutch pack and warp the clutch plates "it has most likely already happened".

So is it servicable in the dozer or do you have to drop trans completly out of it also I have heard of some lines cracking inside the trans creating a problem like this anyone else hear that
Thanks

check your lines but bet on the piston seal for reverser.I have had many apart but never had a Deere with cracked lines .That is more an Allis or Cat thing but check it out when in there. It will probably be the reverse side piston seal is gone.and that is inside the rear end .PS some say you got too take the motor out and others like me have left it in for the job! .Digitup.

digitup is very familiar with the guts of the 550,I am betting on a piston seal blow out too.
if you are comfortable working on heavy equipment,it's not to bad of a job,but you need to know what your looking at once you get in there.
