350c steering valve adjustment

Post by dozingdozer » Fri Jun 24, 2011 10:51 am

folks, I have just rebuilt my steering valves on a 350C with new seals, O rings and springs. They are adjusted and it works OK but i am wondering if anyone has adjusted the travel on the vlaves by just measuring the travel distance of the valves from the housing? It seems this would be easier than what the manual says and realize there will be various play and wear on the linkage. thanks , dd

Yes you can adjust them that way, the main thing you have to get right is that the clutches are fully released before the brakes start applying.

With about 1 1/2 inches of lever travel , there is about 3/8" of spool travel. Thats when the clutches are supposed to start to disengage. Thats also when the levers contact the brake rod arm too, and after that they start to compress the bands.
