Engine over filling with oil

Post by gerald » Sun Jul 10, 2011 8:21 am

My engine oil was way over full after a few hours of use. I,m going to change the oil today and watch it . The engine is makeing oil and it dosn't look like diseal. it feels like 303 oil mixed in . The transmission is the only oil low. That can't be mixing in with the engine. I'm expecting the injectors. I'll brake out the service today an look at it. Any help would be appreciated.

It could also be coolant getting into the crankcase...
Most likely from cavitation erosion (pinholes) in the cylinder liners, or the oil cooler.

Gerald
Does your 350 have the power steering option? If it does, the pump for that is run off the front timing gears and could leak oil into the motor.

catd8. I checked the manual an then looked at my crawer shure enough it has the steering garbage on it. The steering reservoir has alway been empty so I know it cant transfer to the engine. Some day i'll fill an see what happenes . Can a fuel pump go bad an flood the cylinder, or should I just replace the injectors ?

Kemp thanks for telling me about the transfer pump. I replaced it with J D pump an pushed dirt a few hours today . The oil is very clean . The oil level is between the marks an holding steady . I think I have C pump because the seral number has c with the numbers. I hope I never have to go after the pump but I see it comeing.

On the power steering, definitely fill it with oil in case you can save the pump. IF the system will still work and the pump is not shot, you won't ever call it garbage again after you run one.

Lavoy .Thats what I need to hear about the steering a new turn. Ill try that tomorrow with some 15 40 rotelic oil just in case it leaks into my engine . It it holds I'll drain it an use 303 oil.

It may take a while to bleed the air out of the boosters, there is no factory specified process for this, and it can be slow to do it on its own. Either way, it doesn't hurt to have oil in the pump, and if it starts working, so much the better. My 350 had been dry for quite a while I am assuming, and the return line was broken. Put oil in it for the fun of it, and shortly later, oil was coming back through the return line. Eventually the boosters bled, and away we went.

Levoy I did add 15 40 to the reservoir and worked the levers it took oil in the valves when I seen the reservoir bubbling . I lucked out eveything held where it should . I beleve the power steering is easier on the engine with the feather touch turning , I pushed base corse the good part of the and i'm only half as tired with the power steering. The system need to be drained an put 303 oil for the pump in pistons.
