350b 4th gear

Post by skip43783 » Sun Jul 17, 2011 7:49 am

I have a 350b "74 vintage and it wont shift into 4th gear. Is it possible that the transmission is blocked out of 4th??

Not internally unless someone removed the shifter cover and welded something in to block the shift rail. Sounds like a bad shifter, or trans problem. Pull the top cover and see if you can shift the gear by hand.

Ours is quite tricky to get into fourth gear, but I found that you need to have the lever all the way left in the shift diagram for it to work.

Good luck,

4th gear

I have personally never run a deere in 4th gear. Was told at 6 years old that it should only be used for emergencies only. Very tough on the undercarriage and the rest of the tractor. Just my thoughts, anyone else have an opinion on this.

Hay there is nothing like beating over a wide open field full of 4 foot snow banks with a wide track 350 for some good winter entertainment. That is the only reason for high gear in a 350 that I know of .I brought white pine out of a swamp in the back of a farm one winter and found it was more of a winter entertainment than work. You are right though it is just a bit too high a gear for most jobs .Digitup.
