Help with 350 brake band

Post by aoakley321 » Wed Aug 31, 2011 12:47 pm

I am in the process of adjusting the brake band on my 350 dozer. In the manual it says to "tighten the brake band adjusting screw clockwise until snug, ending with the screw on the flat portion of the lock and not in the detent position." What is the flat portion of the lock and what do they mean by detent position? and are they talking about the brake set screw or the adjusting screw?

Thanks

the bolt you tighten the brake band has rounded cut outs or detents so it does not back off on its own. so when you tighen it all the way it will ussally stop on a high spot, then back it off one complete turn and see how it feels when you pull the steering lever, then see how it works for turning on stopping, you may have to re ajust it get it working properlly
thanks Paul
