450C undercarriage squeak
450C undercarriage squeak
About 10 operating hours ago I started hearing a squeak from my undercarriage. Cannot figure out where it is coming from. Even elevated dozer with blade and rippers to take weight off the tracks and cut down on noise, but can't seem to figure out if it is coming from one of the rollers or the idlers. All rollers are sealed, one idler is sealed and the other has a grease fitting -- and is well lubed. Tracks and sprockets are new with about 100 hours on 'em. I have not tried loosening the tracks, elevating and spinning the rollers by hand, but that might work.
The squeak has a regular frequency, and is proportional to track speed. Even with the great difference in idler and roller diameters, I can't figure out which it might be. But it has to be something going around and around! Power washing did not help either.
Any suggestions, ideas?

I would have someone safely walk next to the track while in operation and see iof they can hear where the noise is coming from. that's a little easier than when sitting in the operator chair.

Did that, could not figure it out. Also raised the tractor off the ground with hydraulics as well, I had a friend turn the tracks slowly as I walked around the dozer and listened. Still could not figure it out. Both times we relied on the ears of the person on the ground, not the operator. Listened carefully at each roller and idler. Thanks for the reply, though!Tigerhaze wrote:I would have someone safely walk next to the track while in operation and see iof they can hear where the noise is coming from. that's a little easier than when sitting in the operator chair.

I was thinking the same thing- especially between the master pin and bushing since it isn't quite as tight a fit.
