350B track adjusters, yes another post

Post by Deere Mack » Wed Sep 28, 2011 7:16 am

Hello everyone,
I'm new to the board and look forward to being a part of it. I know there are several post on my subject and I read threw quite a few of them but didn't find what i need.

I've got a rusty track adjuster stuck good and its fully extended for some reason. It has a lot of tension on it, track is tight which will make it difficult to remove. Looking for tips on how to free it up and I'm also curious if I could just replace the rod & seals or does the yoke usually rust out too? Your help is appreciated.

P.S. This dozer will be for sale if anyone is interested. It seems to be in great shape other than the adjusters and the hour meter is showing 1070.

Jack it apart with a grease gun if you can. Lots of times they are stuck permanently, and need to be replaced.

Thanks for your reply Lavoy. I figure they'll need to be replaced, but one is fully extended. does the yolk usually need replacing too? I've found just the piston on the internet or I've found the complete unit(aftermarket) for about $350. I guess I could cut out the tough one with a torch since it's going to get replaced.

You can also collapse the adjuster with the blade (if a dozer) or push on the fron idler with a small skid steer loader.

Lavoy sells the aftermarket hydraulic adjusters much cheaper than what you can buy on Epay, even with the shipping costs.
(1) JD Straight 450 crawler dozer with manual outside blade; (2) JD 2010 diesel crawler loaders; (1) JD 2010 diesel dozer with hydraulic 6-way blade; (2) Model 50 backhoe attachments, misc. other construction equipment

Yoke is the expensive part, almost double what the complete aftermarket adjusters are, so no sense wasting the time.

I have the same issue, compost rotted the chrome away. I cut the tubing and hammered it out of the yoke in a huge vise. The inner bore looks good so I'm just getting tubes and seals. I may run a hone through the yoke just to be sure there isn't any burs. About 1/2 the cost for an hour of work.

So the yoke should be salvagable. Where's a good place to get the piston & Seals? Are there any tips or heads up on what I'm about to get into?

I heated 350 track adjuster an keep pumping grease in with more heat it came apart the next day. The rod was rusted bad but the end where the seals go is what matters.
