Oil Color

I recently purchased a 1968 350 and have begun to replace all filters and fliuds. The trans oil is a tan or light chocolate color , is this JD 303 or is this oil and water mixed together. In the manual that I have it talks about cold weather starts and using a # 1 diesel fuel. Does anyone know what this is and where it can be purchased. Thanks
