Water temperature sensor on jd450B?

Post by crawler123 » Sun Oct 23, 2011 8:51 am

Anyone know where the water temperature sensor should be located on the 1970's JD450B engine. I have a newer turbo engine if that makes a difference.
It looks like someone put an after market water temp gauge in this one. All I can find is the tube that is running from the gauge hanging loose. I don't see anywhere on the head or block where the end of this tube may have been connected. There are some pipe plugs on the head and block but they seem to have been there for some time.
I've been searching here and I have the service manual and they just don't show the location.
thanks
Dennis

Dennis, I am no 450 expert but the few I was around had the Temperature sending unit at the very back end but still on the top of the cylinder head. Behind the end of the valve cover. It's hard to see because it is so close to the fire wall. If it was ever removed, it could have a plug in the place of it. Hope this helps!

Thanks Leonard
There is a pipe plug back there next to the firewall. So I guess that's it.
There are so many plugs around the engine that it would have been a toss up as to which it was. Thanks again.

Dennis, Glad to be of some help. You might check with Deere, as I think they have a fitting that will receive the type of gauge you have. Keep us posted!
