450 B Whats Its Worth
450 B Whats Its Worth
I have a john deere 450B dozer, it was used in the forest service, so it has a heavy duty roll cage. I ran the engine without oil and it was knocking bad, Now it doesnt run at all. It was a good dozer before. Any Idea what I couls sell it for AS IS?
it is really going to depend on your local market and the condition of the other parts on the crawler, but generally an older crawler like that with a major component problem like a blown engine will not be worth the same as a comparable running crawler.
At a minimum, it will be worth scrap value which fluctuates but is usually on the order of $200/ton- a 450B dozer is somewhere around 6-7 tons.
If the other components are in good shape you might be able to get somewhat more from someone wanting a parts machine. You could also part out to make more money than scrap, and would also help out those with 450s.

What kind of dozer?
Do you have an inside mount 6 way dozer or an outside mount dozer. The 6 way dozer is worth considerable more than the outside mount.
Also, does it have a winch on the back. This would also add some value.
I think your best bet is to find a used engine and fix it. Engine changes are farily easy and do not require any specialty tooling. Consider buying an air compressor with a running 4 cylinder deere for $1,500 or less at auction. This is how we usually aquire deere 3 and 4 cylinders are a reasonable price.
