450 bucket teeth/cutting edge advice?

Post by BOBWOOD » Mon Nov 07, 2011 6:38 pm

Hello Guys....Just welcoming your opinions on fixing up a bucket. My bucket never had teeth and there is only a little more than 1" left from the cutting edge to the seam. How wide is that with a new cutting edge, anyway? I was thinking about finding some aftermarket teeth for it. What style should I go with? Should I use weld-on or is it better to use bolt on...(is it even feasible to drill mounting holes? I have a mag-drill but that stuff is pretty hard...)...I thought the teeth would help extend the life of the cutting edge and may be better for grubbing roots etc....although a root rake would be really nice to have I suppose...Anyway, I appreciate your advice. BOB

depending on your location, you can always use a scrap cutting blade off a highway snowplow. We use them and they wear forever, and we weld them on.
just my 2 cents worth....you can usually get them for free at a highway dept.

check with some one like ...cutting edge supply... they have a lot of different bucket edges premade with holes that may fit or they may even have it for a 450

Thanks for your input guys...I have contacted a few suppliers for teeth and I think that perhaps I'll try welding on a strip of old snowplow cutting edge...The current edge is pretty blunt and, although the machine has lots of power, I can't help but think a sharper edge would make a considerable difference in it's ability to skim off a layer of humus. I actually have some already as my grandfather used to do the local roads many years ago...BOB

This may sound funny but I took my worn out teeth off an cut mobil home springs 6 inchs an cut point on each one. I welded them to the old tooth useing Stanless steel rod I have no trouble cutting through the clay on my place.
