My first day as a JD mechanic

I spent my first afternoon as a JD service mechanic trying to service up my recent purchase of the 450c loader.

It did not go as well as I hoped but it was not terrible either. I started by draining the Hydraulic reservoir. I was impressed to find the in tank element missing, I fished around in the bottom of the tank and found the hardware to connect the filter and what appeared to be transmission screen.

I corrected this all and moved to the finial drives, I spent about 30 minutes to get each bottom bottom plug out. I moved to the top fill plugs and I've got one that I cannot get removed and about to round it out, takes the 1/2" square head.

I found a leaking fuel line which I fixed when I replaced the fuel filter.

I removed the nose piece and radiator and have them in my truck to be cleaned up and reinstalled. Then I ran out of time.

Other than only getting about 1/4 the service work done I was pretty happy with the day. However I have to figure out how to get the frozen plug out, and ya I've already put heat on the housing.

Hi !

you can try to weld a old ratchet extension to the plug and then put some
heat and try to remove it . (if it is a inside plug ) otherwise try welding a bolt with exa. head .

You can try to drill a hole into the plug and then use an extractor
with some heat as well .

If you drill you can use a strong magnet and a vacuum to minimize the
steel crumbles to go down into the tank or into the drive .

heat the plug not the case let it cool then try it if it still wont come out put a bolt in the square hole and STICK ARC it (not wire feed you want the heat) just dont hit the case let it cool and it should come out i havent had a plug that did not come out after one or both of these tricks

note as lavoy has warned us about in the past the plug has taped threads be careful heating them or you may split the cases on you machine search old posts lavoy spells out good luck i welded nuts on some in the past to remove cary
