So I spent the day continuing to service work and repair issues on my little 450c. I'm a little confused by some of the coolant hoses.
I have what appears to be a factory block heater correct u bolt mount and shape, however it connects to the block thru a couple of very small elbows. I think they are both connected thru what would of been block drains. Is this normal?
I've also go two 5/8" heater hoses that go into driver area that have bolts plugging them off. One come from the water pump with what looks like a shut off valve, the other looks like it come straight off the back of the intake off the rear engine. It appears that hose clamp is on the driver area. The hole the two hoses go thru does not look factory but there are several hose brackets that hold the hoses to the bulk head that look factory. The hoses come thru left side move to the right and are basically hanging over the brake pedal at this point. Is it possible it had some kind of heater at some point?
I guess at this point what should I do just try and cap them off or should I try and tie them together so the coolant circulates?
coolant hoses and block heater
That is what I'm thinking too. I think I will block those lines off with pipe plugs if I can if not I'll keep short pieces of hoses with bolts for now.
My block heater actually still seems to work.....I think I'm almost good to go with the coolant side of service issues.
Those coolant lines to the oil filter area are real pain in the butt.......I lost a fair amount of skin over that deal.

I can't speak to a 450C,but i believe your engine is the same (minus turbo) as my 310B backhoe. On its block heater it connects through 2 90 degree elbows that go where the block drain would be and another where a plug would be above that. Works like a charm on the 310, left in for an hour it'll starts without hesitation in some pretty cold weather.
Yep that describes mine to a Tee...ya that's a plumbing pun.CatD8RII wrote:I can't speak to a 450C,but i believe your engine is the same (minus turbo) as my 310B backhoe.
