On a 450E and on 400Gs it is mounted in the filter cap on the lower right hand side of the transmission and HLR case. Right hand as if sitting in the seat. Not sure on older models. Maybe some of these other guys can be a better help.

On my 450c it is on the right side of the transmission in the top of the cap that you remove to clean the screen. If you look thru the track you can see the bottom two bolts of the cap, it's about 5" or so in diameter. I had to take the top bolt out from under the machine with a wrench and then I could get the two from the side.

I don't know if you can remove the screen without first draining the transmission. Or for that matter even the sending unit. It is very low in the transmission.

On a different note, if your manual is like mine look in the electrical section where the gauges are. That is where mine told me to look for the senders.
