Winch for 450D
Just purchased a 450D dozer that the previous owner said had a hydraulic winch. The winch was removed when I got the machine but it still has the valve and hoses with quick connect remaining. I would like to find a winch for it, but not sure what fits...What should I look for--will a winch from a skidder work? Suggestions and recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks for the help!!
If it is already setup for a hydraulic winch you might want to look at a Mile Marker Hydraulic Winch. They have a 12K# rated winch for use on off road pick-ups and etc. On a pick-up they run off the power steering hydraulics. Might find one of them used??

Re: Winch for 450D
I don't know anything about hydraulic winch options, but the factory winch is the model 3325 and was driven by PTO. The 3325 was used from the 450 straight all the way up to the 450E. Winches from the 450B and newer are worth more because of design improvements in the brake springs and clutch piston/bladder. You may be able to make a winch from a skidder (model 3305) work. You will still need to find a control valve and adapter plates from a 450 dozer to make it work though. Also, I'm not sure if the input shaft on the 3305 is located at the right place for the dozer either. In other words, if you go with a PTO winch you'll probably be much better off finding a complete winch off of another 450 instead of trying to cobble on one from a skidder.ridgerambler wrote: I would like to find a winch for it, but not sure what fits...What should I look for--will a winch from a skidder work? Re: Winch for 450D
I know this is an older thread but for those trying to figure this out...
I recently bought a JD 450 (straight) and it came with a 3305 winch (any least that's what the tag on it says). I have yet to even test it out in the field much less tear into it to find out if any adapters were needed but it looks as though it belongs there and not knowing much about them, I went with it. I'll be messing around with it (testing/operating) over the next few days and operating it extensively over the next few years so I may be able to offer more input at a later date.

Re: Winch for 450D
450s used the 3320 manual winch and the 3325 power winch as original equipment. The 3305 winch was on the 540A skidder and maybe some other skidders. They are similar in design. I believe the biggest difference is the 3305 used a diaphragm to operate the winch wind in verses the piston and clutch discs of the 3320 and 3325. You will find the 3320 and 3325 in the 450 parts catalog. you will need to look at the 540A Skidder parts catalog to see the 3305 winch breakdown.
I would suggest starting a new thread on this if you need more info as sometimes the old dates don't draw as much attention.
