Hi,
That'd be a 450 'A', then. Deere didn't use a letter for the first series of anything, but presumed them to be 'A' when they upgraded to 'B'. so, for the 450 it goes: 450, 450B, 450C, etc.
When looking for parts, just call it a 450, not a 450A, since there is no listing for a 450A anywhere.

It does mean something, but I don't have the book to decipher it. It will refer to engine, transmission, and attachments that the crawler left the factory with.

It refers to the build or line information like track width and grouser configuration options and sepcifics like country of sale [Up here in Canada dual batterys and cold weather start are standard issue or they would not sell them ] And the latest is safty specks of original sale country or state I just got a 650 H and the emisions are now a code in there on the serial code I think it might be in one of these teck manuals I got on the latest machines Oh also they dont them like they use tooThese new ones will never last as long as the old ones The scrap dealers will be the only guys colecting the H and J series in twenty years . THANKS DIGITUP,
For pointing out Mariner's post,.....our tractors seem to be built at a very similar period of time...........I thing I love about these tractors is they are built solid for their size and power,...and I agree these arent PLASTIC like the lastest products and will always be collected and restored......same implies for the AG DEERE'S.......new generation tractors!
