Hello,
In a number of posts on the board, it would be helpful to know where people are located.
When you have a moment, edit your profile (click the Profile button at the top of the screen) and include which state/country you live in at a minimum. Including the city or town would be even better.
This especially applies to for-sale and want adds.

You may have to make it a requirement for new members to fill in this area or not allow them to click continue.
To the members that have not put in their address, they are not asking for a specific address. A vague one of town and state are sufficient.
Thankyou for your time.

GMT time?
ok ok gmt-2hrs gmt-5hrs gmt+6hrs ???I give up..what the heck is gmt?
what about eastern standard or central or mountain or pacific time not that it is really that important its just that it is an unfamiliar way to identify your time zone location..can you supply a little detail on that item? thanks...
It must be something that you take for granted that everybody understands.
This is the first time that I have ever seen this.

GMT is Greenwich Mean Time. Do a google search, and you will be able to find out what your time zome is relative to GMT. What you see when you register is part of the architecture of the board, and can not be changed.
As has also been mentioned elsewhere, info that you put in when you register is what I use to sort the legitimate crawler guys from the spammers. Your time zone is however not one of these, as I don't readliy see that in your profile.

gmt time?
Thanks for the info.I figured it had to do with the basis for time across the planet, just couldn't recall ever seeing or using gmt anywhere as an everyday piece of time zone identifier.
Anyway -5 is what I came up with for the eastern standard time zone in the USA. It didn't occur to me that other countries would need to adjust for their time zones..any way sorry for the lengthy dialog but the requirements for entering the time zone data correctly and understanding it correctly prompted it
Thanks ...John450

Hi,
GMT is used heavily in communications all across the planet. It is pretty much a requirement, and has been since the beginnings of radio. It is also known as the London time zone.
The kicker is, no one calls it GMT any longer. It is UTC, Universal Time Coordinated. The name change was pretty much political once Great Britain was no longer in command of the planet.
All your computers and internet, smartphones and systems, and even the GPS constellation clock using UTC. Then, they all convert to whatever you have set for your local time zone.
And, the idea of time zones came from the railroads. Before that, one had to adjust their pocketwatches whenever one came into the next town as they moved East or West......
So, it isn't really much of a stretch that we all live on a Planet Earth time.

Back in the dark ages when I was in the USN the military called it ZULU time. Kind of a coincidence in 24 time zones and 26 letters in the alphabet.
By the way, Stan, a cheap creawler is one you just sold.

Hi,
Yes, and before it was Zulu, it was Zed. The ever-changing phonetic alphabet.
Zulu is the NATO one, came about in 1956 IIRC. Zed is the older JAN (Joint Army Navy) one from WWII. Before that, each service had its' own.
And, civilian agencies use different ones again. All sorts of ones. The most common being phonetics based on people's names. But, then, those agencies do not use UTC. They all use local times.
It is only the international outfits and things which use Zulu time. Except for the space agencies. They use Mission Elapsed Time!
And, also Yes! A just sold off crawler is a cheap one! And, ya probably didn't even get half of what was spent on it, either!

Re: Location information
Today.... nearly every internet server in the world uses UTC time... with the embedded offset... regardless of country.

Re: Location information
I seem to recall that the time zone for GMT is on the "PRIME MERIDIAN," probably from Grade School, ugh. I think it would also be 0 degrees longitude.
