Hydraulic pump couplings

Were to get a hydraulic pump coupling for a 450 loader front pump.
Jd wants 1,300 $ for coupling.Must be another way. Thanks

I don't know much about 450 machines (mines a 450c) but I hate to see a post go without a reply.

That price sure does not sound right, what part are they quoting you ? Looking on the JD parts website what I would consider the coupling is T21132 and is $416 which is still high dollar. If it's a different part number you might post it up and people might be able to see if they can find something better priced.

It's interesting looking at the difference between the different series.

wow thats steep. Maybe just the part, yet I would think a bearing house would have something cheaper. More like the $200 range?

I am assuming you mean a drive shaft coupling. A picture would help.

There are tow part to this coupling T21132 is on the shaft ($416) T21375 mounts on the crank shaft ($803). Have not found anyone who has ever seen a coupling like this. Looks like we will be making a trip to the machine shop. My first JD anything and I am not impressed .

Whether it is John Deere, Caterpillar, IHC, Kumatsu or who ever... The cost of parts is always high. You have to remember you are dealing with a machine that is approaching 40 odd years old. Deere and others will charge a premium for vintage parts, only because they can. This doesn't make this right but it isn't necessarily wrong either.
My suggestion is to look for these parts select used. There are some really good salvage operations across the country and most will ship to you. As they say, "Just Google It"

You can use generic farm tractor parts and built what you need for less then $100. The splined shaft if generic and so it the splined coupler. The only part that takes some work is the hub that bolts to the crankshaft pulley. Just make a plate from 1/4" steel and drill it out to fit the pulley. Then add a generic shock-mounted coupler with splines. I've made many for my Deere crawlers and also for my IH backhoe. Ford, IH, Case, Oliver, Deere and many others all use the same pumps, splines and shafts. Ford 724 loader parts are often the cheapest when you buy aftermarket. Deere uses 3/4 splined shafts with small pumps and 7/8" splined shafts with the bigger pumps. 450 dozer usually has the small and 450 loader the bigger.
