Is wider better?

Post by Robert in Texas » Sun Apr 30, 2006 4:40 am

I have a wide stance 350 C. I am looking for a set of normal support arms for the undercarage. This crawler at one time had swamp pads, now it has normal chains so there is a foot of clearance between the frame and rails. kinda looks goofy. :D :D

Robert In Texas your 350C is a first year build for this series 1975 there where several aplications for wide stance-standard track build as these little deeres would side hill like no other crawler could and in some marsh vegetable farms these were and still are the only machine that could ride the marsh with out breaking through the top layer of light sod also the wide stance standard track worked well as a row crop unit. Up here in Ontario a place called Holland Marsh has nothing but wide stance standard track crawlers in it That areas local John Deere dealer has sold thousands and has been in it since the 40 series crawlers days This area is fairly large and on a nice day in the spring it is crawlers as far as the eye can see even four wheel drive tractors cant work this land but wide stance crawlers have no problem on the peat farms I should jump on my bike some day and go over and take photos of these farms and crawlers.Lots of old ones up there also.Digitup.

Hi,

That sounds like a good plan - riding around and taking pix of crawlers being used for farming. I haven't seen a crawler doing ag work in a long, long time. All I've seen is the usual dozer and loader applications. It'd make for a interesting addition to the site. :)

I did use my 420c for a quick way to put the rows in the garden this spring. I had the tiller on the back of the tractor and felt lazy and didn't want to switch to the disc, so I tilted the blade on the 420 and used it instead. That's not really ag work, though. ;)

Later!

Stan
