water in oil on my 450b

i showed the head gasket to a co-worker & he said based on the gasket he thinks i might have a warped head / the gasket has a lot of rust on it between the 2 cylinders / could he be right

Pete, can you take a close up photo of that gasket, the head and the block? then post it here.

Or, take the head and gasket to a engine shop and get a opinion.

Wouldn't be the first time that a head gasket leaked into a cylinder, it would be nice if that was your problem.

You might be able to have it planned back to level.
I have never had a diesel done but many times on gas.

if the head gasket was bad enough to leak in the cyl. then into the pan you would see water marks in the cyl. and it would be blowing water out the rad. cap like old faithful.... pull the pan a look up in the cyls and you will probaly see dripping water.... i bought a international flatbed with a 466 in it that had a hole in one cyl. it would not crank over so the dummies pushed it till it worked its way past the water in the cyl. it did not run long as they bent the crank and wiped out a main bearing

here are some pics of head & block / hope u can give me some advice from these / do i need to replace head bolts when i reassemble engine / someone said that they stretch

I overlooked in my earlier post, that what jtrichard knows and wrote about a leaking head gasket is/has to be the answer. If a leak is putting that much water into a cylinder then on the compression stroke and during combustion, you should get huge pressure into the cooling system. No unusual pressure in the rad?

Your photo link does not seem to be working.

Pull the oil pan and let everything drain out for awhile. Then look up at the crankshaft throws and cylinder liner bottoms and look for water and rust stains. It is extremely rare for a Deere 300 series engine to have this problem from a head gasket. It's just about always from a bad sleeve seal or a sleeve with pinholes in it. Very common. The older 300 series engines only had one seal per sleeve and the newer had three seals per sleeve.

The cylinder liners and the seals are exactly the same for non-turbo or with turbo. The turbo sleeves are not thicker. The pistons and rings area different design.

I seriously doubt it. That being said, the Deere 300 series heads can be safely resurfaced to .030" with no issues. If you go more there is a angled oil hole that gets too big and misses the sealing area in the head gasket.

I worked as a Deere tech for a long time. The only time we planned heads on these engines was for better cold starting and not for head gasket problems. Planning a head is one way of establishing proper valve-head recess specs for good cold starting. But - putting in valve-seat inserts is a better way to do it.

pulling oil pan & got a few bolts off but very big hose that is in my way / is there an easier way to do this & what am to expect
