9300 or 9500 Backhoe barrel style swing cylinder

Post by treeman4646 » Sat Oct 27, 2012 4:30 am

I'm re-sealing the swing cylinder on a 9300 backhoe attachment. You know, the old barrel style cylinder. It's all apart, cleaned and ready to go back together except... The vane on the shaft.
I've got the six bolts out, had to heat the heads to loosen them, but the vane does not come off. There are four, what the parts book calls "studs" going down each side of the vane and I'm thinking that's what is holding it on.
How in the world would it have even been assembled I don't know.
Does anyone have any experience with these things?
The seal for the vane in the kit has a rectangular seal so I'm pretty sure it is designed to come off.

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply....

I don't have a manual, when I picked up the seal kit, the dealer couldn't find a service book in his library either...

I'm not at my shop today, 12 miles away, Honey Do list etc...
I'm trying to get my head around how the 93A dowels work.

On my vane, the dowels / studs protrude through the vane base with right hand thread that looks like they are threaded right into the vane base. Easy enough to put a nut on with a spacer and tighten it up, but....

I'm thinking that applying clockwise force when tightening the nut onto the spacer onto the dowel will only serve to "lock" the whole assembly together rather than "thread" the dowel out.

I thought I'd try locking two nuts together and threading the studs out that way but the protruded thread is only a bit longer than the height of one nut.

Anyway, thank you for the reply, I'll give it a shot...
