Took down my 350 to replace steering clutches but some of the bolt holes are stripped out. Anyone have any idea to remedy this without changing the housing. Already tried heli coils.

Threaded inserts (Keenserts is one brand) are much stronger than helicoil, and if done right, should be as strong as the original hole. I personally do not use Heli-coil anymore, too much of a hassle. I have had great luck with threaded inserts. I usually get them from McMaster-Carr Supply.

Keenserts are the way to go. If your good with a stick welder you can even make them even better. Just tack or weld around the keensert to insure they do not move. Make sure to put plenty of red locktite before putting into the old hole. Good luck!

That and make sure the hole is clean and free of oil or contaminates. Also, I have been using the clean and cure primer with the Loctite, no comparison as far as setup time.

Thanks Lavoy, the keylock inserts are a lot better than the helicoils and a lot easier to install.

Have used helicoils but never heard of keylock inserts. Where can you get them?

There are different brands and styles. Keensert used to be one brand, Timesert was another. McMaster-Carr Supply has generic ones, that is who I source them from now. They have them in different wall thicknesses, and virtually any thread size. Go to their website and type in threaded insert and it should come up.
Our local Fastenal also carries them, as might any good bolt supplier.
