85 450D HLR problem need help

Post by john h » Sun Dec 09, 2012 10:34 am

Hello everyone, I am new to this site and I have looked for an answer to my question on the message board but couldn't. Sorry if this has been asked before. My 450d hlr trans started slipping first in reverse then hi or low in 3rd or 4th gear forward. I noticed that if I bearly pushed the clutch pedal the hlr would disengage, So I disconnected clutch linkage completely letting it go full open, then ran it and hlr didn't slip felt normal. so my question is do I just adjust the clutch or is this the beginning of a real problem. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like to me that all you need is to set the adjustments for the HLR / Drive Clutch. You will need a manual or at least access to one. Follow the book exactly and you can't go wrong. You will find that the top travel of the clutch pedal is for the HLR. Then the bottom half of the pedal travel is for the Drive Clutch. Sense you say it seems to be functioning with it in the full on, then I really suspect the adjustments are out. Good Luck! And keep us posted in what you find. :D
