Water comeing from overflow tube
Water comeing from overflow tube
I have a 350b notice water coming from overflow tube on radiator took cap off and water was came out of opening like it had pressure even when cap was off engine was cold changed thermostat no change no water in oil , any ideas on whats going on thanks in advance.
Not good. This could be head gasket or worse. compression from your cylinders is getting into the cooling system, |Actually head gasket from my experience is the most likely and the easiest fix. I hope it is the problem. Was your anti freeze up to the required mix for winter?

Do you think something happened after it was rebuilt or perhaps a error in assembly of the engine.

Often when the head gasket fails (or was improperly installed), when you stop the engine after it has warmed up the pressure in the cooling system will force coolant past the head gasket into the cylinder. Then if your start the engine after it sits a few minutes the exhaust smoke will be greyish white for a few seconds as the coolant in the cylinder is boiled off. If the leak is bad enough you can get enough coolant into the cylinder to hydrolock it when you try to start. That can cause damage.
I have successfuly limped along by loosening the radiator cap so that no pressure builds up to force coolant into the engine when it stops. Not long ago I had a 455D that I kept working for several days until I had time to replace the head gasket. You run the risk of the hot exhaust gasses cutting into the head as they leak by the head gasket, but fortunately that has not happened to me.

When the head is off look all around for a small crack in the head or top of block too... its rare and usually the gasket but sometimes a crack will get you and they can be hard to see....especially look where ever a water jacket is close to the combustion chamber. They are easier to see after everything is cleaned well.

I pulled and replaced a head 3 times in one day on a 40C because it would not seal up. Head and block were freshlly planed, so that was not the problem. Finally figured out that the metal faces of the head gasket do not seal very well, sprayed both sides of the gasket, head, and block with Copper Spray a Gasket, and it worked fine. Since that time, I use it or Copperkote on every head gasket I install.

The older Deere engines, 3 cylinders through 6 cylinders require a "Re-Torque" after you have ran them long enough to bring them to operating temperature. If your issue is truly a head gasket, then make sure you re-torque the bolts after warm up. I have seen these head bolts back off as much as 30 Ft.Lbs. Usually it is around 10 Ft.Lbs. This is enough to allow the gasket to not seal and a leak will occur. The Copper coat is a good idea but make sure the gasket you get doesn't already have a sealer on it. I have seen the copper coat react with the sealer the gasket manufacturer used and it will cause the gasket to fail. Copper coat is good stuff! Just be careful to see if it is needed first.
