i just had a couple springs break on my isolator, unfortunately before it blew it did the same noise thing right at start up but then went away after it fired up.

been trying to get parts for about 3 weeks now, the spring retainers are apparently no longer available so i am going to have to try and make one to replace the one that broke, i ordered everything but the isolator itself and the flywheel and it all supposedly shipped out today except for the retainers.

Nothing to worry about... What you are hearing is the Torsional Isolator and its five springs rattling. As the engine is cranked these springs are quite loose and they rattle until the engine comes to life and all the slack is taken up. You will also hear this same rattle as you bring the engine RPM down to an idol and at shut down. When they are rattling... that is a good thing! Its when they start banging loudly and it sounds like the engine is exploding when you want to worry! :D

the spring retainers are apparently no longer available
What dealer says these are not available any more? I just got a set a few weeks ago, and the JD parts website says they're still available. Here's the line from there.

T55320 RETAINER,SPRING ADD 32.75 USD

the only place i could find them listed was greenvalleyparts and greenfarmparts neither of which could get them, do you have a link to the JD parts website you got them from? that would be great if i could get some, unless you got the last of them

If your JD dealer is an agriculture dealer, they may not be able to get the JD industrial parts. I have that problem where I live. Go see an industrial JD dealer and see if that cures the problem :D Lou

If you register (which is free) it will ask you for your zip code, and find the nearest dealer when you select which type(s) of equipment you use. Once you do that, you can check pricing and availability of parts.

Lou is correct that many ag dealers can't get "industrial" parts. The ag dealer I use (Atlantic Tractor) has a way that they still can order them.

I use Atlantic Tractor, the Oxford PA branch. Phone: 610-932-8858 . They're not going to stock the retainers, but should be able to order them.

I'm assuming you already checked with Lavoy, but if so did you try Murphy Tractor? I usually go to their Kansas City location but they have branches all over:

They are a JD industrial dealer and they have gotten everything available from Mother Deere that I have needed, including NOS gaskets they had sitting in a warehouse somewhere. They commented that the antique box they came in was probably worth more than the gaskets.
