jd 450b track and final drive

Post by rock digger » Sat Mar 02, 2013 5:59 pm

Today I was plowing snow with my 450b as I went in to reverse I heard a crunching noise, looking down to my left as on the tractor I could see the left track was very loose. I backed up a short ways to see if I had thrown the track. It was still on the sprocket I got off tractor and noticed the sprocket seemed to lean outward and sat alot lower on the bottom than the other side.

After checking to see if the spring or antythimg I could see was broke I could find nothing easy to see had failed. I then tried to move and no power to the left track at all. Right side is fine and cluthces seem to work. After about an hour of fighting it and pulling with another tractor it is in the shop.

With all that said does anybody have any Ideas were to start looking?
I have never had any touble with undercarige it was like new when I bought it. I have all the books but they don't say alot about it at this point.

Thanks in advance for any info Rock Digger.

But would bearings make it loose power on that side? They could account for the slack and tilting sprocket but I don't know how it would account for no power. I hate to suggest it but that to me sounds like something more.

i was thinking (hoping for his sake) that the gear dropped enough to not mesh with the pinon ....but yes it can be far worse
