Been using my 1966 350 for clearing over grown brush where I live was working in third gear back blading left over branches put into forward to make another pass a very loud sound like a slipping spline or coupling and no movement of the machine. Reverser I believe is working if I have trans in neutral reverser in either forward or reverse I get grinding when trying to select a gear so I am assuming the problem lies behind the reverser. engine is strong reverser could be smother shifting but works well already rebuilt both steering clutches hydraulic pump & control valve new re core on radiator three new injectors looks like I will be doing an almost complete dismantle to fix the problem. Has any one had this same misfortune as me.
I am a retired heavy truck Master Mechanic and worked on heavy equipment also but really did not need this to happen
Not a happy camper!!!

Coupling
There is a coupler between the reverser and transmission. My guess it is stripped, fairly intensive project to fix.
