JD 350 Loader Frame Falling Off

Post by JDCI » Tue May 28, 2013 7:35 pm

I've got an original 350 with a loader on it. The bolts that hold the loader frame to the rest of the tractor have all apparently vibrated out, so now the loader frame just flops around.

These bolts seem like they're supposed to thread into nuts on the inner side of the frame. The problem is there doesn't seem to be any access for a wrench or any kind of tool to hold a nut. So how are these bolts supposed to be installed/removed? Is there a special tool or technique? I don't even think a crowsfoot wrench would fit.

Looking forward to advise from the experienced members here, thanks.

loader frame

Post by rcs110 » Tue May 28, 2013 8:49 pm

are you talking about the two bolts on each side of the main frame that holds the loader they are under the fender and if so they should have a dowel and a retainer on the back side that the bolts go into to hold it to the frame, the front has two pins that hold it to main frame also. I have the whole back off my 350 right now in order to fix my transmission and those are the only bolts that holds the loader frame to the main frame that i can see. the other thing is do you have the parts catalog for the loader if not here is a picture of the loader frame.

if your bolts are gone then #18 retainer (nut plate) is gone or in the belly pan you need #s 18/19/20 X 2each and 21 x 4each 3/4 x3 1/2 grade 8 with lock washers .....because the "nut plate " is on the inside you don't need to get a wrench inside the frame just hold the plate up to the holes ... the two plates hold the dowel in place .. looks like all of these are still available from JD (i would look for used first)

Thanks for the replies.

Based on that parts diagrams it looks like the missing bolts on my machine aren't related to the loader frame apparently.

The bolts I'm talking about are located almost directly below the foremost floor plates and run vertically. They're at the bottom of the 'column' where the loader arms and lift rams attach.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

missing bolts

Post by rcs110 » Fri May 31, 2013 3:14 pm

would you maybe talking about the bolts the hold the front cross bar. when i took my machine apart I had to remove the rear bolts in order to get the transmission out. with out them the motor and transmission will move check out the picture to see if they are the bolts that are missing.
there is not much else that holds it together. those bolts are under the front floor panels you also have to drop the skid plate to get to them.

Could be the frame / reverser bolts. Best not to use it anymore until you find out what's wrong with it. Frame, reverser and cross member issues are fairly common and most if the times just alot if labour to fix.

I think you guys are on to something. I couldn't tell what was actually moving in relation to the rest of the machine but it seems likely its the engine/tranny not the loader frame.

I'll take a closer look this weekend. Unfortunately this thing is out in a pit far away from any tools or shop.
