Still okay to ask a question
Yes, you fill thru the dip stick hole under the seat. The final drives, steering clutches, rear end and transmission are all one common oil cavity.
If you just drained the fluids completely including clutch cavities, I like to dump in 5 liters (more than a gallon) into each steering clutch thru the pipe plug bung hole on top of the steering clutch housings.

Leonard come on... here is a (newbie) that has gotten different answers from people.... he is looking here for experts like YOU to clarify what he has.. you know that some times the books are not the clearest things to figure out and just to prove my point Jason (which i know has a number of 350C's)said they are common cases (I do believe that) and then jsal says there are fill and level plugs on the finals ( he may be thinking of straight or B model) so you can see where some one (especially a new guy to a machine) can get confused at least he is smart enough to look and ask for help so he don't run things with out oil...LeonardL wrote:I rest my case!

I looked up that very information on my 450C last night. The manual is somewhat miss leading. The final drives have fill and drain plugs, the next section (20) is about the Steering Clutch Housings, "NOTE: Change transmission oil (item/section 22) at this time. The transmission ans steering clutches have the same sump and the manual goes on to:
1. Remove drain plug from each housing.
2. Drain all oil
3. Install drain plug
4. remove fill plug from each side.
5. Fill each housing with 7 gal. (26.5 L) of John Deere HY-GUARD Oil (J20A), John Deere Hydraulic OIl (J14C) or equivalent.
6 Install fill plugs
Section 22 Transmission Drain and fill the transmission. Clean the filter.
Note: Change the steering clutch housing oil (item/Section 20) at this time. The transmission and steering clutches have the same sump.
Now based on that information, I'm thinking I need to put 7 gals in each steering clutch housing and 8 gals in the transmission... but they all share the same sump.... When you check the fluid level under the seat, is that the fluid level of the transmission, or, the transmission and the steering clutches as well? As expensive and time consuming it is to fix an issue if either the steering clutches or the transmission sump is run low of oil I would certainly be asking others for a more definitive answer.

looking at the parts break down there are 2 plugs (one fore and one aft) on the inside of each final that appear to be level/fill plugs and in the bottom inside there is a drain plug so the finals may NOT be common to the trans and steering boxes

Thanks guys..the transmission oil dipstick also measures steering clutch housing and final drive oil...no doubt I over looked the fill plugs on final drive. U drained the transmission and steering clutches n finals ..put the transmission plug in and continued to fill with fluid till I seen evidence of it coming out each plug...I was told it shouldn't be coming out of finals..if so then I have a seal problem... so I appreciate the info..

Guys please don't compare different models of machines when giving someone advice on something so specific. There are enough differences within one model, let alone two. And to those of you telling someone to check a plug that you obviously don't have experience with, please stop! If you're not sure of something than don't say anything! I understand you're trying to help but you're only muddying the waters more!
The plugs on the finals are for draining the oil out. Steering clutch housings also have 1 plug a piece, for the same function. Transmission case also has 1 plug, again, a drain. If you just drained the trans, you'd never get the oil out of the finals or clutches, hence the need for so many plugs.
And yes, Leonard and I have SEVERAL times given a really good run-down on how to best check and fill a 350C. So please be understanding if he is frustrated....

No need to be confused any longer, the plug in the final drive is drain plug, and your book is correct. If you want to check out the other links to older posts, there is a faster way to fill the steering clutch housings, but filling everything through the transmission works too. You just have to allow time for the levels to even out.getting other info that the final drive has a seperate fill plug.
