minor problems w/ my 450c

Post by north country dozer » Sat Feb 08, 2014 7:12 am

Well, I have an infrequent problem with what seems to possibly be my ignition button. I often have to take the side engine grill off and arc the solenoid with a screw driver to start it. Seems whenever I have to start it that way it will start normally for the next few times after. I hate low voltage wiring

The other is my brake on the right. The pedal seems to be jammed or stuck. Luckily without the brake supplied so I've just been driving it with the clutch which isn't to much of a bother. Thanks in advance for any replies

Electrical problems are a pain! I usually start replacing the cheap. simple things first. Perhaps check connectors- loose, almost broken connector?

My 450B had stiff steering lever and I think it's the shaft/bushings- one bushing worn all the way through. In the process of replacing those.
If yours sticks could it maybe be a return spring, or does it bind?

I have had the same symptoms on more than one c rawler where the problem was the same. It was where the starter wire passes through the firewall at the back of the gauge compartment into the engine area. The harness has a connection there that has given me trouble. that said, on many occasions ignition switches give up easy as do start buttons. Next time it happens I would pull out the ignition switch and jump from there. If that is not it then next check the harness at the firewall.

I'm betting on the harness connection at the firewall.

Thanks guys... been lucky so far with it starting right up. It is a pain arcing the solenoid terminals in white out conditions but so far so good. Hopefully it makes it through the winter and when it warms up I'll look in to your suggestions
