Used track pads

Post by truck209 » Tue Mar 18, 2014 3:05 am

Recently purchased new pads for 350c - nuts and bolts. When ever the weather warms up here in southern Vt. will be putting them on. Would like to know is there any value in old pads other than scrap metal. There is three quarter of an inch on grouser and the old nuts and bolts have only been on for about 15 hrs. We,ll put calipers on bolts to see if they stretched when I remove pads. just thought it would be handy for someone to put weld grousers on. Also is there a place in the Northeast that sells blade face for 350c. Thanks For all information. Bob

Pads and bolts.

Post by Toomanytractors » Thu Mar 20, 2014 11:13 am

Hey Truck209
I'm looking for a few pads, and possibly nuts and bolts. My 350C tracks are a link short on each side and I plan to replace the chains, but need a couple of pads to cover the new chain link. Maybe we can work something out.
How sad it is when one sees only the machine and not the artistry of heart and soul that designed it.

How high is the grouser on a new pad?

Thanks. That works fine. I'm not in a hurry.

I welded on new grouser bars more than 10 years ago on a 350 dozer, they've held up fine, ended up with 1.5" height after the new bars were welded on, hardly any noticeable wear and the machine don't slip even in liquid slop, I'd swear it paddles once you get in deep also helps chop up sod real good.
be prepared to do a heap a welding if I remember around 75 lbs of big rod to get them all on.
The local JD dealer 5 Star Equipment had nice hard material in 8 ft lengths, sort of a trapezoid shape, wider at the bottom with an extra bevel like a peak roof for welding.
clamped a straight edge to the shoe, then ground it somewhat flat/even.
rolled the track so the grouser I'm ready to weld is past the idler and lying horizontal, cut a piece of new bar to length and c clamp it at each end, a good root pass and a wide cover pass on each side.
