78 450C Radiator hoses and bypass hose

Post by DrLoch » Mon May 19, 2014 9:18 am

I noticed a new vibration at certain RPM on my loader this past weekend. Knowing my water pump bearing was going bad I reached and was able to move the fan blade quite a bit. When I stated it up again you can see that wobbling around quite a bit.... water pump time.. I went to the JD pars site to get the part number for the hoses, figured I'd change them since I have to remove the radiator to get to the fan blade bolts on the water pump. The part numbers for the hoses at the JD site don't seem correct for the hoses. T12815 is suppose to be the bypass hose, which is a Dayco 70846, Goodyear 60138. 1-1/4 - 1-1/4 15" long. Those number are the same crossovers for the lower radiator hose which sounds right. The Upper is a JD T21124 which crosses to a Dayco 1212 or 81141, 1-1/2 - 1-1/2, 12-1/4 long. Does anyone know what the size the molded bypass hose ?

Well the water pump was certainly my vibration but I haven't replaced it yet....... Water pump bearing went completely out and the fan hit the lower pulley.... Cut the lower rad hose and chopped a section out of the belt.... and a couple of the fan bladed are not meant for this world. Thankfully the fan blades didn't get the radiator

Now I not only need the water pump I also need to find a fan and and get a belt. I have a water pump and new hoses coming but I dreaded replacing the belt. Have to remove the nose, radiator, and now the hydraulic pump. Bummer. I was hoping it would last the long weekend.. have a ton of stumps to pull.

Anyone have a line on a used fan blade? it's a pusher. JD Part number from there site is AT27701 anyone know if that is a good number? Belt is a T24473 although I've found one of those.

Tried that web site and it leads you around in circles when you try to contact the supposed seller. There's a crawler bone yard about 60 miles away, I'll try them first. Also want to see if they have control valve linkage for a loader. Need to rebuild/re-bush to get the slop out. once I have a core set I can offer as a service to others.

I will see if the bone yard has a used fan and what it may cost. I've some some research and have found that Flex a Lite offers replacement automotive type fan blades as well relatively inexpensive, ~ $60 I would have to make an adapter to adapt it to the JD water pump but I believe it could be done. We have a machine shop in our building full of CNC machines. The fan is not designed to exceed 4000 RPM which it wouldn't in our case. I will post up what I find.

Lavoy, Std PN was DP20473, rev PN is AT27701. 20" Diameter, 6 blades. 1.5 pilot hole, 2.5" bolt circle, 4 mounting holes with a .343 hole size. It's (was :? ) a pusher. Going to try and get the nose off today.

I check out the diameter tonight when I get everything out of the way and get it the bent one off. Thanks for looking though.

I think I can get a new puller fan, nothing for pusher.

Once I get the correct fan diameter I can get a reverse rotation fan, just need the adapter which we can machine here. New Replacement Fan has bolt hole circle of 1.75 to 2.5. The WP bolt circle is 2.5, pilot diameter of the JD water pump is 1.5, pilot diameter of the fan is 5/8. Simple fix, gonna make the adapter on the turning center just need to see how much room I have forward of the fan to the radiator.

I'll let you know how it works out so if anyone else has a problem like this the solution will already have been designed and machined.

instead of making an adapter you might be able to take the (pulley/fan hub) and machine the raised center off and then it will center on the bearing shaft something to look at :D :D

I had thought about that as well, but the WP shaft comes up through the raised pilot of the older fan. Total thickness of the adapter is .813 which I believe will still give me more than enough clearance between the fan and the radiator. Older fan wasn't into the shroud.

I have a 19" (19.25) reverse rotation fan coming, should be here tomorrow or Friday. Was considering the 20" but the true OD would have been 20.25 and I believe I would have had shroud clearance issues. Got the nose off, radiator off and old water pump off. Impeller was plastic.... new one is a machined casting.
