Clean oil filter
Clean oil filter
When changing oil in my straight 350, I removed the spin on filter and it appears very clean as if oil has not been circulating thru the filter, at least as I thought it should be. Oil pressure has always run around 50lbs. Oil level is good, i check it before every operation. Anyone have an explaination why this is occuring. Will it harm the engine to continue to run.

If the oil is dirty, the oil filter has to be dirty, if it isn't, I would not run it til I determined why it is not. Take the filter off, and start the engine very briefly to see if there is flow to the housing is one way I can think to check.

Lavoy, I did as you suggested, removed the filter, spun the engine over about two revolutions and oil shot out over the track, so apparently there is nothing wrong with the oil pump or the engine? I sawed the old filter in half and the filter material was quite dirty so it appears it was working. The tractor had been sitting a couple of weeks and I didn't start it before I drained the oil. I guess thats why the old filter looked dry inside. Thanks!

That is very possible if it had sat for a while, glad nothing was wrong.
