looking at 69-70 old 350 loader
i have been looking at a 350 loader and as usual im looking at a project and the biggest concern is a mounting area for i believe the loader frame . I did not get to spend a lot of time and i saw 2 long -looked like -banjo bolts for a rear axle on each side . the location was under the transmission on each side and there was a small bellypan bump for the reverser drain i suspect and this shaft was supported and held with these 2 long axle bolts like on a pickup rear axle on either side . I would have thought that there would be a cast block that would have held here ,as i have seen on my 1010 . please tell me if this is not factory . the mud and crap was making it difficult to assess but this rear frame axle ran from side to side and just behind this bump in the trans and when i saw one side attatched like this , then the other side same but pulling these two a touch and ther close proximity to this bump in the casing , i thought it may be incorect and thought i would try and explain . i have no pics thanks

I'll preface by saying I don't own a 350 but have looked at a few at auctions and the parts manual, and it sounds like you are describing either the front or rear crossbar for the trackframes. If it is a round shaft then it is probably the rear crossbar.
Anyhow my understanding is that these crossbars were not well designed and a common problem on the 350s and can become cracked when stressed. I think the later models, or at least the 450s, were designed to allow flexing. My guess is that the banjo or u-bolts were someone's attempt at a repair as I didn't see these type of bolts shown on the parts manual diagrams.
I'm sure others more familiar with the 350s can add their input on this. I know this has been discussed in other threads so you may even find some photos.

I have not got any pics but i believe tigerhaze is on the correct track . so they are bad for rear crossmember attatch points and i should look closer .these attatchment points are ? framerails or are they cast on the trans and really difficult or ? thoughts please , i have been looking for prior posts and at this point nothing yet thanks for the replies

Take a look at the parts manual for the 350 crawler tractor- it is in the sectional index (Section 55, No. 6) that shows crossbars. It looks like there are solid brackets with a cap that fit over the round bar and are attached by four bolts on each side. I am assuming I am looking at the correct sectional for this:

thanks TigerHaze i believe your on the money , i now understand the reasoning behind a good parts manual and not just the service manual . I will go and give this unit a better visual and make sure that this indeed is the area of discussion . and i thought i would ask is the frame for the track and these crossmembers the same ? i did try opening up the parts window for the 1010 and it only had the loader window opening . thanks for the reply

Hi,
Parts manuals give you exploded view drawings, before you wind up exploding the machine in frustration!
Service manuals don't. But, they do tell you *how* to take it apart, which is not always clear in the parts manual.

FYI, when looking at the earlier crawlers on the parts website the loader manual is for the loader attachment only (same with dozer); you have to look at the base crawler (crawler tractor) to see all of the other parts.
I am probably not the best person to discuss the crossbar specifics as I don't have one of these crawlers, but others may be able to enlighten you. After looking at the parts manual further, it does look like there are variations on how they are mounted depending on whether you have a dozer blade and other attachments.
