450 reverser oil

Post by firetech » Wed Jul 30, 2014 7:49 pm

hello can anyone tell me how to check reverser oil level? Is there a dipstick or plug? Filler hole? I lost a line to the reverser and finally managed to replace it and boy what a job it was. So now pretty sure it must be low or empty. Help!!!!!!!!!

Well I guess I'm not that lucky. I found two rubber plugs approx 2.5" in dia and one hole approx 1/2" dia. No dip stick. Maybe I am missing mine. I removed the floor plates and checked all over. The hole is deep and I figure it is the dip hole so can anyone measure their dipstick from top of plug to fill line and maybe I can make a stick to measure. If anyone can post a pic of the stick in place that would help immensely. Can the stick be seen with the floor plates in place? Can I buy a new dip stick from somewhere?

should be a (about) 1"pipe nipple sticking up out of the trans cover maybe 3" with a screw cap that has the stick on it

Is a 450 similar to a 350?

Image

That is my dipstick location the arrow points to the transmission dipstick and the reverser is clearly visible next to that U bracket on the floor plate.

Isn't the C model different for straight model for a lot of things?

thanks for the pics. I definitely don't have a dip stick like that. And if it is suppose to be like that then mine is missing. my transmission dip is also under the seat and not exposed to the foot floor plate area. Is your machine a 350 or 450.

Mine is a 350, I didn't know if they were similar enough to be of any help.

Firetech do you know which submodel you have (straight 450, 450B, 450C)?

FYI, the online parts diagrams for the 450 submodels always show it being on the top of the HLR towards the front (i.e. the first (large) cover on the top). I'm guessing what differs between submodels is how the seat base arranged relative to the large top cover on the HLR. It does show it as a stickup tube with dipstick which would be consistent with the photo posted, Jrichard's description, and the tube/dipstick on my HLR for my 2010.

If you want to look for yourself at the parts diagram go to this link and search for "450" in the model search at top left, then go to the "922- 450 Crawler Tractor" link in the search results, then Sectional Index 35, Index 7:

thanks for the posts. I don't know what sub model I have. All I'd s are missing. I do know its a 450 from all the previous owners receipts from service but that's it. I havent had time to check the other website but i will and thanks again. But really if anyone has a mid 70's 450 if you could measure the dip stick I will jerry rig a stick so I can measure levels till I can find a real one.

Mine does have the "HLR" gear selector. Does that help identify my machine model?

Under the seat cushion. Left side just behind your left heel. Big round head than needs to be turned out as it has threads under the cap. One dipstick for reverser and transmission.
450`s c-dozer 6 way, b-loader.
350`s c-loader + ripper, b-loader with winch arch. B-loader with dozer pads
backhoe attachment.
1010 loader with forks for round bales
a few 610 Bobcats. many attachments
