I just bought a 1980 model JD 550 that need new undercarriage, when I went to order it the salesman looked it up and thought that it called for 37 links but I had counted 36 links. Is there anyway that someone has taken a link out? Does anyone know for sure how many links it is suppose to have?
JD 550 dozer, Case 1845c skid steer, Case IH 5140 tractor, Case IH 5130 tractor, Case IH 80 tractor, Kioti 3054 tractor

taking a link out is not uncommon when the chain is worn past the point where the adjusters cant keep it tight enough to keep it on. I will assume that your sprockets are needing replacement as well !

Yes the sprockets are shot also.

I don't know what book he was looking in but JD parts Site calls out 35 reg links and 1 master when i went to school that was 36 ..... TRACK ASSEMBLY WITH SHOES .. 2 ... 406MM (16") (36L) (BUSHING O.D. 53.8 MM) (USE WITH SPROCKET T145700 OR T175960)
2010 with 622 dozer with mod. 35 ripper and a 2010 with 622 dozer bought in 1969 and a 2010 loader with drott and mod. 36 ripper
